Our Mission: United for Sapelo Island
Sapelo Strong was born out of need in tragedy, but it thrives on the strength, resilience, and unity of the Sapelo Island community.
In response to the devastating events at Marsh Landing, we came together to form a coalition of local organizations committed to providing immediate relief and long-term recovery. Our mission is to support the families impacted, preserve the Gullah Geechee culture, and help rebuild our beloved island.
Through financial aid, counseling services, and community rebuilding, we are ensuring that Sapelo Island remains strong for generations to come.

a partnership for support
We help the Sapelo Island community recover and heal by providing immediate financial relief and long-term support in partnership with local organizations.
Through a unified coalition, we ensure that families affected by the tragedy at Marsh Landing can access essential services—such as counseling and community resources—so they can overcome their grief, rebuild their lives, and preserve the rich cultural heritage of Sapelo Island for future generations.
Our Story: Strength in Unity
On what was meant to be a day of celebration for Sapelo Island, tragedy struck at Marsh Landing. The gangway collapse took lives, left families grieving, and caused immeasurable pain to our close-knit community. In the wake of this event, leaders and local organizations came together to form Sapelo Strong—a coalition dedicated to supporting the immediate and long-term needs of the community.
What started as a call to provide relief has now evolved into a larger mission: to ensure that the people of Sapelo Island have the resources they need to heal, rebuild, and preserve the cultural heritage of the Gullah Geechee people.
Our Vision: A Stronger, United Sapelo Island
At Sapelo Strong, we envision a community that not only recovers but thrives in the face of adversity. A Sapelo Island that preserves its rich Gullah Geechee heritage, uplifts its families, and remains resilient through collective action.
Our core values include:

What We Do: Support, Rebuild, Preserve
We are committed to meeting the immediate and ongoing needs of our community. Our work is focused on three primary areas:
Immediate Financial Aid: We provide funds to cover funeral expenses, medical bills, and essential needs for families affected by the tragedy.
Healing and Counseling Services: We’ve partnered with local mental health organizations to ensure that emotional and psychological support is accessible to all who need it.
